If there's one thing I love about Christmas, it's decorating the house and making it feel all festive and cosy. Of course there's the tree (more on that next week!), but there are plenty of other ways to trim up your living space ready for the big day! This year we're going to be having family over for Boxing Day in our new home, and I can't wait to dress the space and table on the day. I've been looking at some effective homeware trends, tree alternatives and kitchen ideas that are easy to create on a budget with a little creativity!

White Christmas:
I love the simplicity of white decor, and even more so at Christmas time. White paper garlands hanging low over the dinner table are an affordable way to create drama and interest. Match them up with white tablecloths and runners, crockery and flowers, and add a touch of silver to break everything up.

Light Fantastic:
Nothing quite screams Christmas like some twinkling fairy lights, and they're not just for the tree! Use them to brighten up dark corners of your room by winding them around bedheads, pillars, and banisters. A simple way to add some festive cheer is by updating a classic wreath with a twist of fairy lights, perfect for the front door!

Christmas Kitsch:
If you're decorating a small space or a Christmas tree just isn't your thing, why not deck out a fireplace or sideboard with some quirky lights and baubles (who says they're just for the tree?!). I love the retro inspired feel of these Habitat robot, planet and animal decorations teamed with colourful lights!

Crafty Creations:
I love getting creative and making things that will add a personal touch to my living space. An easy way to do this is to get crafty with various printed papers such as wrapping paper or wallpaper, and creating hanging 3D shapes. If this is a little on the tricky side, paper garlands are super simple and just as cute!

Ever Green:
If you haven't got the space for a Christmas tree, or want to make a dramatic table setting, then why not purchase a few pot plants or hanging baskets and trim them with matching green baubles, fruit and ribbons for an easy festive alternative?
I'd love to hear how you are decorating your homes this Christmas and if you have any crafty ideas I could use for my Boxing Day celebrations!
