GETTING PERSONAL: A BRA FITTING WITH BHS

A couple of weeks back I was asked to visit my local BHS store to try out the Bra Fitting service and pick out some nice new underwear sets. Now underwear isn't something I would usually blog about, but (and things are about to get personal now...) just before Christmas I was experiencing a lot of discomfort in my boobs and the tops of my shoulders, which after some worry,  I eventually realised was down to the ill fitting underwear I was wearing.  Don't get me wrong, I love Primark as much as the next girl, but I will no longer be buying their bras as they would shrink so much, wires would fall out and the general shape of the cup was non existent after a only few washes. Desperate to get some new bras a couple of days before Christmas, I decided to do some research online and save myself a little embarrassment by measuring myself. New bras were purchased and hey presto, the discomfort stopped almost immediately, but part of me has always been curious since then as to whether I'm actually wearing the right size. I realised then just how important it is to make sure you wear the correct size, and you buy something that you know is going to offer comfort and support.

I hot footed it down to my local store in Preston a couple of Saturday's back and was introduced to the lovely Ellie who would be doing my fitting. Now, all girls know that a bra fitting isn't exactly the most glamorous or easiest situation to be in, but Ellie made me feel comfortable and at ease straight away, talking through how she would measure me, what styles of bra I liked and how to adjust/fasten a bra correctly (FYI, if your bra has 3 sets of clasps, you should be able to wear it comfortably on the middle fastening).
After a quick measure, Ellie confirmed that I was indeed wearing the correct size, but suggested that I measured ever so slightly smaller under my bust so should try on both a 32 and 34 to ensure I was definitely in the right size.
She headed out in to the store to find a selection of bras for me, and brought back a range that I loved in various styles. I actually went in to the store with the impression that there wouldn't be that much for someone of my age to choose from, but I was actually really pleasantly surprised with the range of cute floral designs, balconette shapes and pretty lace numbers.

We eventually concluded that I was indeed a 34, which fit perfectly. Ellie gave me time to try everything on and was on hand to adjust straps so that they sat perfectly in the right place. Needless to say, I arrived at the till point with my hands full of gorgeous new underwear sets after all of her help, and all in a range of beautiful colours and designs. The best thing? Every single bra that I went for cost no more than £12 each, which I think is a really great price considering the quality. I've spent in the region of £20-£30 for others in the past that haven't matched up to these! They also have some great offers on when you buy 2 styles from the same range. I saved an extra £5 by doing this!

Overall I was super impressed with the fitting and would like to thank Ellie at BHS Preston for all of her help and patience. If you're considering going for a fitting then DO IT! It's so important to make sure you are wearing the right size, which is something I learnt the hard way.

Let me know if you pop down to your local BHS and what you think of the service!

  1. This is a great post! I struggle to find bras as I am pretty flat chested and know exactly what I like, and can never seem to find what I want! So I will definitely be checking BHS out!
