Ever since going blonde a good two and a half years ago, I've always wondered in the back of my mind if I should have gone for a subtle ombre instead. I loved my white blonde locks though as I felt like they brightened up my whole face, and I'd been stuck in a rut with my hair for such a long time that a drastic change was just what I needed. Fast forward to six weeks ago when it came to booking my next appointment, and I decided it was time to experiment again! Since Winter had well and truly arrived, I figured it was time to tone the blonde down and opt for a more natural look for the colder months. Three words; I. Love. It!
My hairdresser was as keen as I was to keep things subtle, so rather than going for a whole block of colour on top that's graduated down, she decided to use foils and work with the hair in 'weaved' sections, leaving some completely blonde and adding colour to the rest. She went for a warm brown/red on the higher sections of my hair (I know, it sounds terrifying, but being bleached, my hair needed a warm tone otherwise it wouldn't have shown up!), then took a medium blonde shade through the mid sections, making sure it all blended seamlessly.
The tips of my hair were left untouched so that they remained the same shade of blonde that I've known and loved for so long, as were the roots. To my surprise, my hairdresser had managed to match my roots to the darker shade exactly, though the bright daylight in the photos makes it seem a lot lighter!
I'm so, so please with how it turned out. It's the exact look I was after, and it's going to be so much easier to maintain now that I don't need to have my regrowth touched up every six weeks. Yes it's true that blondes have more fun, but this way I get the best of both worlds!
Have you had a go at the ombre look? Have you got any tips for caring for colour treated hair?
So cool hair style babe
